BIO

Music producer/engineer Joseph Magee was once called a triple threat by Mix Magazine; happy to mix live, record in studio or mix for feature films.  Whether it be music driven comedy like “Pitch Perfect 1 & 2”, ground breaking projects like “Metallica: Through The Never” or trusted film brands such as The Muppets and Miley Cyrus, Joseph has recorded, mixed and produced on-camera songs or score for over 90 feature films.  Legendary music producers Glyn Johns , Trevor Horn, Hugh Padgham, David Foster and many more have relied on his skill to deliver great sounding songs for their film endeavors.

Joseph has received one Golden Reel award, two nominations and one Grammy nomination.

In addition to feature film soundtracks, Magee is equally at home with Esports, Indie artists and all streaming platforms; whether it be music recording/mixing/producing or music video production.  His musical production passion remains strong today, for a diverse range of artists: Pop, R&B, Soul, Hip Hop and Country.

Magee began his career after graduating from the University of Southern California, with a Masters Liberal Arts Degree, Recording Engineering Thesis.  His first engineering assignment was to record the Los Angeles Philharmonic, four days a week, for KUSC/APR/NPR/EBU broadcasts at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion.  Next up was a transition into the world of feature films, working for several composers, scoring and mixing.

It didn’t take long for Ernest Fleischmann, Executive Director of the LA Phil, to invite Magee back to the Philharmonic to Sound Design/Mix at the Hollywood Bowl.  For eight summer seasons, Joseph’s Bowl schedule of classical, pop, world music and jazz was rigorous, while he maintained numerous feature films year round.  Magee was also a consultant for the orchestra on The Walt Disney Concert Hall design/construction project and the Hollywood Bowl renovation.

Born and raised in Seattle, Joseph participated as a musician in the local band scene, touring the five western states, as well receiving an undergrad degree in music at Central Washington University.   Joseph’s father, Joe Magee, moved to the Seattle area from Water Valley, Mississippi, eventually bringing many of his relatives out of the south to the Pacific Northwest. To this day, Joseph’s family is still spread out from Washington to Mississippi.

After the move to Los Angeles, graduating from USC, working for the LA Phil and mixing orchestral film scores; a turning point came for Magee’s career.  He was asked by music supervisor Dan Carlin Jr., to mix the on-camera songs for the film “What’s Love Got To Do With It,” for Tina Turner, produced by Chris Lord-Alge.  This turned out to be the beginning of a long relationship with the Walt Disney Studios, Feature Film Music Department.
